DEMOCRAZY

A DEMOnstration of Craziness

Democrazy: A Demonstration of Craziness is the title of the body of work we have been working on for most of 2019 in close association with BASA(Business And Arts South Africa), Investec Eclectica Contemporary, and LALELA PROJECT to document and share the exhibition with audiences.

This ever-evolving project was established by Johannesburg based Visual Artist,

Ofentse Seshabela, who portrays the process and journey of his artistic interpretation, dmonstrating what the concept means in relation to his current circumstances.

As a Democratic(South Africa) nation, which is still in its development, we figure that it is important to reflect on the "progress" of a Democratic system post-apartheid, and how it has impacted people and spaces.

Our work is an audio-visual representation of awareness of the co-existence of parallel worlds of society and power. With Democracy being our adopted political and social system of existence, we use art to ask these questions:

Has Democracy lived up to its ideals of shared equality and equal opportunities for all? Has the system been beneficial for the masses in its 25 years of existence in our country?

Have designated funds for development been put in areas that need it most?

Do we need to re-evaluate the system and possibly think of an alternative solution that will benefit those less equipped or less fortunate?
